Welcome to the group of Materials in Medicine
We are part of the division of Applied Materials Science, Department of Engineering Sciences, located at the Ångström Laboratory. Our research is focused on the interaction between synthetic materials and living tissues. The aim is to understand this interaction and use it to develop new biomaterials for medical devices and drug delivery systems. To meet these goals, our group is formed by a multidisciplinary staff with backgrounds in material science, chemistry, and biotechnology. Our research is conducted in close collaboration with the industry and other biomaterial scientists as well as pre-clinicians and clinicians at both national and international level. The group started in 2005 and is headed by Prof. Håkan Engqvist who has a background in the MedTech industry and presides the Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials.
