International master programme in additive manufacturing

2018-09-19

During the last decade additive manufacturing (AM) increased in popularity, and both the academy and the industry are in desperate need of engineers with knowledge in the field. Therefore, the Department of Engineering Science at Uppsala University plans to start an international master programme in AM.

– We have well advanced plans and the programme should be launched in 2020, says Urban Wiklund, Professor in applied materials science at the Department of Engineering Science at Uppsala University.

The content of the programme is drafted and according to Urban Wiklund it should include everything from manufacturing of raw material as polymers, metals and ceramic to how the materials are used in different AM-processes, in other words how the materials melt, solidify or polymerize.

– It’s also important that the students learn everything around AM, such as economics of manufacturing, and design including CAD and FEM.

The international master programme is a two-year programme and during the last six month students will work on their master's thesis.
